Party Day Two - Music!

In Play Music, Play Magic, Wand'ring Minstrel Noula Tuomi uses music to weave a magical web around herself and her lovers. A lot of writers, me included, like to write with a soundtrack in the background. It doesn't always manifest in the end product. One of the tenderest sex scenes I've ever written was written to a soundtrack of '80s hair metal, while a light BDSM scene was written to a mix of Dar Williams songs. Yes, my brain can be a very strange place to live.

Music can have a profound effect on one's mood, but it isn't always the effect one might expect. So my question to you is, what music puts you "in the mood"? You know the mood I mean. ;-)

And don't forget, your comments are your entries to win an ebook. And guess what? It's not just Play Music, Play Magic, but the whole I Put a Spell on You anthology!

I don't have a type of music that puts me in the mood...it all has to do with the words of the song. Unless I've been drinking, and then anything with a heavy beat will do it for me LOL :)

LOL! Good answer! ;-)

I'm a very word-oriented person, so I definitely get where you're coming from on the lyrics vs. genre.

There are actually 2 moods for me:
The hot and heavy mood which I go into with songs that have a fast beat and preferably racy lyrics e.g.: For Your Entertainment by Adam Lambert and virtually all of the soundtrack to Queer As Folk USA
Then there is the soft and romantic mood, which suits those songs that are slow and breathy, like the songs they have at love scenes in movies. e.g.: Colorblind by Counting Crows, Love Me Tender by Elvis, Real Love by the Beatles...

Muse. Period. Ever since I first heard them years ago, their music, uhm, affected me. ;) I'd credit a lot of that to Bellamy's voice, but also when they feature piano? I'm a goner.

I'm LOLing hard at the tender love scene/80's hair metal combo, but I actually can see it (maybe because I grew up on the stuff? And lusted over their spandex and teased long hair? I can't be the only one).

But I have a hard time actually writing while listening to music w/ words. I get too caught up in the actual songs and my focus is gone. Radiohead is an exception occasionally, but a lot of times I listen to classical or opera.

Notoriouslyunique ~ Different music for different moods. Makes sense to me! And you've reminded me that it's been too damned long since I pulled out my Counting Crows CDs. I must do something about that.

Shelly ~ LOL! Yeah, there's definitely something...hrm...moving about Muse, isn't there?

Sometimes I get distracted by lyrics, sometimes not. I wish I knew ahead of time, before sitting down at the computer, which one it was going to be. :-S

PARTY! Yes, I've finally managed to drop by, too! Be impressed! ;)
Music... Well, I've been a Pet Shop Boys fan since... uh, forever and since they've been around for... uh, forever there is ALWAYS a song to suit my mood, or a piece of lyric that triggers something...

Welcome to the party, WildePet!

I love the Pet Shop Boys! And I expect I'll now have the theme from "Absolutely Fabulous" in my head all day. ... I'm okay with that. LOL!

I have a strange relationship with music but it's the richness and purity of the vocals that gets to me. Along with intricate instrumentals! There's nothing like a guitar that makes your skin light-up, a voice that wraps around you or a strong, defiant drum that pulls you along with it.

So yeah, classic rock is good. The violin is the devil's instrument (along with the saxophone) and it's a bit out of left field but try savage garden for a voice that's like honey!

Gah! Where have I been?? I missed the first entry and totally knew it was Ianto!!! *pouts* oooh music, is my life! I always need it to be playing in the background of everything that I do. I have a very eclectic music taste and my Ipod holds a multitude of genres. It really depends on the actual song and the combination of lyrics and beats. Sometimes, I find myself walking around in the streets blasting the theme music of Perfect Strangers “Nothing's Gonna Stop Me Now.”*lol* IDK! It makes me all giddy!

Spaghettitoes - You might like Mediaeval Babes, in that case. I recommend checking out "Undrentide". I'm cruising their website (http://www.mediaevalbaebes.com/) and finding all sorts of lovely looking things that I DON'T HAVE! *eep!*

RedCouchAddict - I loved "Perfect Strangers"! Totally fogot about that theme until now. I'll have to see if I can get it from iTunes. :D
